The Latvian railway state company (LDz) is goinig to procure 16 new trains and 600 wagons of different types till the end of the 2014th.
Currently LDz and its members such as LDz Cargo and LDz Ritošā sastāva serviss have more than 200 diesel trains. 20 of them will past their sell-by date by the end of the 2014th. According to the company’s representative Maris Ozols, this is why the company needs new trains.
General Electric took an interest in this opportunity and its production has been tested in the last year. The orderer is going to test more General Electric trains of Kazakstani factory and trains of the German manufacturer Siemens, trains of which are used in Lithuania. There are more Spanish branch of the German company Vossloh that produces main-line trains and Russian manufacturer „Sinara-Transport machines” among wishing to deliver their production to the Latvian railway state company.
